- Professor Tomohiro Ichinose
Introduction of the discussion
Birds are divided into three groups: birds that inhabit the forest (forest-type), birds that inhabit the waterside (waterside-type), and the intermediate type.
The number of forest-type and waterside-type birds are known to increase in proportion to the area of their habitat.
These data are obtained based on field surveys and questionnaire surveys by many volunteers, by overlaying and comparing the number and kinds of birds and data of vegetation and land use for each region after the map is divided into small regions.
Finding the problem
Then, how does the distribution of birds change depending on forest-type, waterside-type, and intermediate-type?
Argument
First, forest-type birds show a positive correlation both in the forest land and in land-use areas, and it can be said that it is possible to conserve bird communities while coexisting with humans and birds.
Waterside-type birds have a positive correlation with the areas of open water, wetlands, and paddy fields, which correspond to feed areas, and it is important to protect and secure such feed areas at the same time.
In this way, from the viewpoint of bird protection and conservation, if we consider the appropriate arrangement of land use such as forest land, waterside, and agricultural land, it can be said that humans and birds can coexist successfully.
Conclusion
Therefore, I would like to study by associating with the environment and land use the reasons why species such as salamanders that were temporarily reduced to the Red List have recently increased by moving and expanding their habitats.
Examining the conclusion
By studying with Professor Tomohiro Ichinose, who is studying landscape ecology and the global environment, such as the relationship between bird distribution and land use, I am sure that I could obtain various perspectives regarding my research and it would open up new horizons for me.
Therefore, I believe that Keio University’s Faculty of Environment and Information Studies is the most suitable place for pursuing my research and social contributions, and I am aspiring to enter your school and study in your laboratory.
