- Associate Professor Satoko Oki
Introduction of the discussion
Recently, large-scale natural disasters have frequently occurred in Japan, and people’s awareness of disaster prevention is increasing. Japan has about 20,000 earthquakes a month, including earthquakes that are not felt.
There have been reports that the “Nankai Trough Earthquake” and “Tokyo Metropolitan Earthquake” will occur within 30 years. In Japan, where earthquakes occur frequently, knowledge and preparation for disaster prevention are necessary so that correct actions can be taken at any time.
Finding the problem
Then, how should we think and act when a disaster occurs?
Argument
According to disaster prevention questionnaires etc., people’s awareness of disaster prevention was very high immediately after a large-scale disaster, but the awareness tends to decrease over time.
In addition, there are many unrealistic assumptions in disaster prevention and evacuation drills at schools, such as hiding under the desk and aligning in the schoolyard according to the instructions of the teacher’s microphone.
In order to solve this problem, in the disaster prevention training class organized by Seiko Oki, students can learn practically the awareness of disaster prevention by searching for danger with photos.
In this way, disaster prevention activities to consider through simulated experiences are thought to lead to higher awareness of disaster prevention.
Conclusion
Therefore, I would like to build a disaster prevention education program that raises awareness of disaster prevention in order to avoid danger by spreading it to more people.
Examining the conclusion
By studying with Associate Professor Satoko Oki, who is conducting a lot of practical research such as disaster prevention education classes and field work, I am sure that I could obtain various perspectives regarding my research and it would open up new horizons for me.
Therefore, I believe that Keio University’s Faculty of Policy Management is the most suitable place for pursuing my research and social contributions, and I am aspiring to enter your school and study in your laboratory.
