I have been accepted into the PEARL program at the Faculty of Economics, Keio University. Mr. Hayashi played a crucial role in assisting me with my statement of purpose, a significant component of the PEARL application process. The essay was required in a format that I was previously unacquainted with. Unlike the application essays for universities in the United States, I learned from Mr. Hayashi that Japanese universities place a greater emphasis on articulating future aspirations, research interests, and potential career paths that I could pursue through Keio University. Unsure of my specific career direction, I initially struggled to begin my essay. Mr. Hayashi attentively listened to my thoughts and aspirations, providing guidance that helped me clarify my vision and articulate it effectively. During my exploration of potential subjects in economics that piqued my interest and were suitable for my application, Mr. Hayashi provided valuable insights and guidance based on his expertise in those areas. He also posed thoughtful questions that encouraged me to delve deeper into each subject. Moreover, he recommended numerous resources that expanded my understanding and could be incorporated into my essay. Ultimately, I identified a topic that resonated with me and was relevant to economics. My interest sparked a multitude of ideas, and Mr. Hayashi assisted me in refining them to highlight the most significant ones while respecting my preferences. Additionally, he even gave me other ideas that I could possibly dive deeper in. As a result, not only was I able to write an authentic essay that aligned with my interests, I was able to add valuable information that elevated my distinction. In addition to the essay, beginning with the fall 2025 application, PEARL mandated the submission of a two-minute presentational video. Despite this being the inaugural year for PEARL to incorporate this component into the application process, Mr. Hayashi was able to provide assistance based on his experiences with similar applications that also required video submissions. Overall, Mr. Hayashi demonstrated a keen ability to listen to my perspectives and remained adaptable to my preferences. He provided useful advice that helped me navigate through uncertain periods and encouraged me to refine my ideas. Subsequently, I learned a lot about myself and Keio University through Mr. Hayashi’s guidance, and I am satisfied with the results of my essay and video. I greatly appreciate his help and support.
