早稲田大学 国際教養学部 AO入試 志望理由書 提出例(陳 天璽 教授参考)

Dear Admission Office,

I am writing this letter with an intention to explain my purpose in applying for School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, hoping to pursue a major in International Communication, Laws and Citizenship related studies later. I would be more than grateful if you could kindly give it a read and grant me an opportunity to the next in-person interview.

Truly admiring to see how Chinese migrants are spread all over the world and built Chinatowns and businesses everywhere. Therefore, Chinese migrants are often referred as global citizens for the fact they migrated outside the country in size with a dignity and sense of community. On the other hand, it is also true that Chinese migrants are an ethnic group which has often been tossed up by the turbulent situation in international politics and the volatility of national regimes. So are Jews, when we think about a single ethnicity that left home and successfully blended in, we can only mention Chinese and Jewish while the circumstances were very different for these two groups. And as globalisation and exchange of human capital increases, I can’t help but to think that if we studied the historical traces these ethnic groups and how they adapted, it is very likely that we come to an understanding of how a country should cope with on-going immigration problems.

Why did the Chinese diaspora occur in the first place? The term “Chinese overseas” is generally used to refer to the approximately 46 million ethnic Chinese living outside China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. The mass migration known as the Chinese diaspora was mainly caused by wars and starvation in mainland China, invasion from various foreign countries, as well as problems resulting from political corruption. To understand the impacts of mass migration, from a sociological and cultural point of view, the role of Chinese immigrants has considerably contributed to the development of economic and cultural aspects with distinct countries and societies in the world. A relevant example, the cultural links and influences that China has had on the Southeast Asian region, in a sense the cultural ties increased considerably as the Chinese descendants become naturalized citizens. From an economic point of view, the influence and contribution to the global community has been remarkable, when Chinese merchants started setting up their businesses in US, Latin America, Africa and South East Asia. However, the competitiveness with Chinese migrants leads to tensions with the indigenous population, For example in Johannesburg, South Africa, cultural tensions are often felt between the black and Chinese communities, especially since Chinese business is often in direct competition with black business, which is heavily supported by the government’s Black Economic Empowerment Policy (BEE).

The political landscape around us is constantly changing, and in order to help a country cope with those changes and consequences of trade and human capital exchange, understanding of International Relations and history of migrations can be the core philosophy of it.

I wish to examine international relations focusing on Chinese migrations across the globe before I can work for international institutions, with a goal to discover peaceful solution on how countries and communities can deal with immigration problems and use it to their advantage. In order to attain high-level education and equip myself with what is needed to survive the next decades of globalization and competition, it is extremely important for me to study various international studies among like-minded students at Waseda where liberal studies is offered. I am very much looking forward to hearing good news.

Sincerely Yours,
