早稲田大学 国際教養学部 AO入試 志望理由書 提出例(飯野 公一 教授参考)

Dear Admission Office,

I am writing this letter with an intention to explain my purpose in applying for School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, hoping to pursue a major in Communication and Sociolinguistics later in my academic year. I would be more than grateful if you could kindly give it a read and grant me an unconditional admission or an opportunity to the next in-person interview. During the interview, I would also be delighted to expand more on my area of studies and what I can achieve upon joining the school.

While globalization is generally regarded as the process of international integration involving businesses or organizations, this interchange of cultures, languages and ideas has had a dramatic impact on education and the way people learn languages as well. The motivation for people to learn language was mostly 1. Local presence 2. Colonization 3. Access for education 4. Tool to communicate and better job opportunity, and it hasn’t changed for the most part, but the dynamics have changed due to globalization and newly introduced technologies. For this reason, I think it is important to recognize how globalization has affected language around the world to develop a better understanding of how schools and educators can continue to serve an ever-evolving population even as their learning needs change, as well as how individuals may have to update their attitudes towards language studies.

First of all, what has made English a global language? Is it still the appropriate language if one wishes to establish fastest communication across the globe or is it in competition with other languages? One can benefit from learning languages like English and French because it has a history of colonization and the languages are still spoken in many places across the globe. In addition, it has been adopted as the standard language for academic papers and educational programs, thus many can secure access to more opportunities and stay objective if you are able to interpret english articles themselves. However, outside academic field, languages like Chinese and Spanish are in competition with English and French as being able to understand those languages means you can easily do business with people due to increasing number of immigrants and businesses run in greater areas.

Nowadays, the world is enchanted with what new information technology has made possible to the point that the world has become digitally controlled including communication to some extent. This digital revolution has spread throughout the world and into private homes and businesses. What we call globalization is a result of this information technology which now is the basic foundation of our daily activities. Digitalization and translation technologies has affected different sides of our life and interacted, integrated and distinguished cultures and traditions through moving and merging some habits, customs, cultures or values of different societies to create the concept of globalization. The biggest change technologies have brought to language studies and overall education is, systematically knowing a language merely represent a tool which can be substituted with machines, and one has to do better than that to communicate in a human way understanding various business habits and cultural values.

Everyone is somehow brought up watching movies in which robots and AI take over, so in the back of our head, we all have a fear that if we are not careful enough choosing what skills to acquire we become replaceable against those technologies. We live in a world of many changes and great inventions, however, there are positive and negative consequences that come with it, and more than ever being made aware of latest technologies and its effects has been so important to navigate the mass information. Therefore, I feel passionate about gaining broad knowledge in international studies from diverse perspectives and deep dive in social language studies. I am very impressed with a wide range of study programs that can be found on online syllabus. And in order for me to attain high-level education and equip myself with what is needed to survive the next decades of globalization and competition, it is extremely important for me to study various international studies among like-minded students at Waseda where liberal studies is offered. Thank you very much for reading and I am very much looking forward to hearing good news.
