早稲田大学 国際教養学部 AO入試 志望理由書 提出例(布袋 敏博 教授参考)

Dear Admission Office,

I am writing this letter with an intention to explain my purpose in applying for School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, hoping to pursue a major in History and Korean Cultures later in my academic year. I would be more than grateful if you could kindly give it a read and grant me an unconditional admission or an opportunity to the next in-person interview. During the interview, I would also be delighted to expand more on my area of studies and what I can achieve upon joining the school.

Later generations aren’t exactly aware of the history, that infamous is a result of Japanese occupation and US-Russia division during WWII just like Germany and Vietnam. Before there was a South and North Korea, the peninsula was ruled as a dynasty known as Chosŏn, which existed for more than five centuries, until 1910. This period when an independent Korea had diplomatic relations with China and Japan, ended with imperial Japan’s annexation of the peninsula which lasted about 35 years. When Japan surrendered to the Allies in 1945, the Korean peninsula was split into two zones of occupation – the U.S.-controlled South Korea and the Soviet-controlled North Korea. Amid the growing Cold War tensions between Moscow and Washington, in 1948 two separate governments were established in Pyongyang and Seoul.

It looks like 2019 will be concluded with disappointments for South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Beset by domestic challenges, he is facing difficulty in putting inter-Korean relations back on track. In order to appreciate the impact of wars and aftermath of external political division, North South Korea relations is a very unique case for any experts to study applicable to ongoing political landscape elsewhere.

Beyond the political divide, are Koreans in the North and South all that culturally different? In fact, Koreans in the South and North have led separate lives for almost 70 years by now. Korean history and a collective memory of having been a unified independent state for over a millennium, however, are a powerful reminder to Koreans that they have shared identity, culture and language. Recently, exchange of goods such as k-dramas and north made cosmetics has seen an increase.

Political matters, despite differences in their approach to North Korea, recent two US presidents and South Korean presidents took a major step toward transforming the Cold War alliance into a “comprehensive strategic alliance.” Questioned by Trump, nonetheless, under previous leadership, Washington and Seoul agreed to expand the alliance’s scope to cover nontraditional threats, like terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and other global challenges like piracy and epidemic disease, while coordinating and standing firm against North Korea’s provocations. Now, US – North Korea nuclear discussion seems to be failing and the rest of the world really doesn’t know what is happening except countries like US, South Korea and Japan are preparing forces for real threat.

We live in a world of many changes and great inventions, however, still seem to be suffering from chaos caused by leaders and their fragmented decisions, and more than ever understanding different cultures and international politics has been so important to navigate the mass information. Therefore, I feel passionate about gaining broad knowledge in international studies from diverse perspectives and deep dive in comparative cultural studies. I am impressed with a wide range of study programs that can be found on online syllabus. And in order for me to attain high-level education and equip myself with what is needed to survive the next decades of globalization and competition, it is extremely important for me to study various international studies among like-minded students at Waseda where liberal studies is offered. Thank you very much for reading and I am very much looking forward to hearing good news.
