Dear Representative at Admission Office, 

First and foremost, I would like to thank for the opportunity given, and in this letter I will do my best to explain my motivation in applying for School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, hoping to pursue a major in Marketing and International Business Studies later in my academic years. I would be more than grateful if you could kindly give it a read and grant me an admission. During the in-person interview, I would also be delighted to expand more on my area of studies, previously participated activities and what I wish to achieve with liberal studies curriculum including study abroad program.

Across many disciplines, interest is increasing in the use of computational contextualization and media scientists analyze social media in order to predict corporate crises, political scientists and economists look for indicators of mood and sentiment in platform speeches and economic forecasts. There is a term called “Scientific marketing” and it uses data mining to gather information. This information might include where target consumers live, how much they earn, how much time they spend online, what websites they visit, and what they purchase online and various data points.

Personalization in the world of digital marketing refers to the ability of your marketing efforts and tools to enrich the customer journey by ensuring the offers, the content and the website experience as well to meet the exact requirements and interests of your customer. In addition, personalization is performed by utilizing the customer’s own behavioral patterns and even their actions in real-time, to ensure that the customer will see only things that are relevant to that customer. Different types of scientific marketing tactics include; Econometric Modeling and Market Analysis, Customer Relationship Management, Digital Data Personalization etc, all making the most of data companies can gain on public sources and their corporate assets.

It is definitely scary, everything is personalized and we are a recognized dot in the ocean of consumption. I wish to be a conscious consumer and potentially a data scientist. I feel the strong need about gaining my own perspectives in international culture, data science and marketing studies to unlock different pockets of education that would help me work in competitive global workplace. And in order for me to attain high-level education and equip myself with what is needed to survive the next decades of globalization and competition, and locate professional opportunity, it is extremely important for me to study various international studies among like-minded students at Waseda where liberal studies is offered.
