The Asian Disaster Reduction Center was established in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture in July 1998, based on the Japanese proposal for promoting multilateral disaster prevention cooperation in Asia. The center is now organized by 29 member countries and advisory countries.
In order to effectively reduce the damage caused by disasters, since it is essential to raise awareness of disaster prevention among communities and residents, the center is promoting various efforts such as development and dissemination of tools to improve disaster prevention capabilities.
In addition, the center has created an Asian Disaster Prevention and Disaster Relief Network, and has supported NGO networking efforts so that NGOs can conduct more effective disaster prevention activities.
In addition, the “Sentinel Asia” project was launched in 2006 with the aim of establishing a disaster prevention crisis management system in Asia using earth observation satellites.

In Japan which is located in an earthquake-prone area, it is always required to reduce disaster damage caused by earthquakes and tsunamis by the widespread involvement of disaster prevention personnel.
Therefore, in order to reduce the victims of the earthquake, the following activities are carried out such as, renovation and rebuilding of old houses and buildings, fixing of furniture, pasting of protective films on old windows, encouraging the creation of business continuity plans (BCP) for companies, distribution of Tsunami hazard maps, effective transmission of Tsunami warnings, establishment of reliable evacuation method for residents to safe areas, recommendation for early evacuation for the elderly and persons with disabilities, distribution of flood hazard maps, etc..
In addition, each community also promotes disaster prevention education, including participatory practical disaster prevention drills for children and students, and strives to ensure the widespread use of disaster prevention.
In the future, it will be very important for Asian countries to develop community plans, assess vulnerabilities, and implement disaster countermeasures that participate in disaster prevention and mitigation activities.

Therefore, I would like to study disaster prevention programs that are necessary for Asian countries with different disaster environments to conduct disaster prevention and mitigation activities suitable for their circumstances.
