- Associate Professor Shohei Matsukawa
Introduction of the discussion
“GPS”, which is often heard as a function of smartphones and car navigation systems, is a system that measures the latitude, longitude, and altitude by receiving radio waves from an artificial satellite that flies around the earth, and that knows the “current position”.
Photos taken by smartphone cameras and cameras equipped with a GPS function contain various data related to photography, such as location information (namely, Exif information), shooting date and time, camera model, and camera settings.
From photos with location information, we can specify the shooting location. Simply enter the latitude and longitude coordinates in a search box such as Google Maps, and a pin will be displayed at that location.
Recently, location information has been identified from photos posted on SNS, etc., and there have been cases involving criminal activity, etc., so it has been called for sufficient attention.
Finding the problem
So how can these photos be used as useful tools?
Argument
Associate Professor Matsukawa developed a system for sharing local information by displaying photos with location information posted from a mobile phone with a GPS camera on a map in an operational experiment entitled “Spatio-Temporal Poemer”.
However, there are issues such as anxiety that could lead to the leakage of personal information and development of a mechanism to motivate continuous posting not only at the event.
Conclusion
Therefore, I would like to develop a tool that collects photos with location information from the audience at event venues such as outdoor concerts and sports games, and create PVs and videos using them.
Examining the conclusion
By studying with Associate Professor Shohei Matsukawa, who is developing an attractive tool that uses photos with location information, I am sure that I could obtain various perspectives regarding my research and it would open up new horizons for me.
Therefore, I believe that Keio University’s Faculty of Environment and Information Studies is the most suitable place for pursuing my research and social contributions, and I am aspiring to enter your school and study in your laboratory.
