- Professor Manabu Omae
Introduction of the discussion
Recent innovative development of communication technology and digital technology has greatly changed society. The vehicle is no exception. As social networking has permeated, the practical application of autonomous driving has begun to appear.
In order to realize autonomous driving, it is necessary to implement functions such as route planning / searching, lane detection, obstacle / pedestrian detection, surrounding vehicle detection, and autonomous collision avoidance.
However, because today’s standard social infrastructure is not “friendly to autonomous driving” in Japan, it is practically impossible to put autonomous driving into practical use only by expanding functions on the vehicle side.
Finding the problem
What kind of social infrastructure is appropriate for autonomous driving? What functions should each vehicle have?
In other words, the next challenge for autonomous driving is to classify the functions to be implemented on the vehicle side and the functions to be developed on the social infrastructure side.
And Comprehensive system design should be made to meet the functional requirements both on the vehicle side and on the social infrastructure side.
Argument
In order to put automatic driving into practical use, route detection by high-precision GPS positioning, control area segmentation by local and wide area networks, vehicle relative position detection using vehicle-to-vehicle communication and road-to-vehicle communication, and all vehicles must be automatically steered by coordinated driving, laser scanning radar / millimeter wave radar and obstacle avoidance by vision system, etc..
In addition, it would be necessary to improve the reliability of the entire system based on the fail-safe design concept.
Conclusion
Therefore, I would like to study an empirical approach to comprehensive system requirements necessary for steering control in autonomous driving.
Examining the conclusion
By studying with Professor Manabu Omae, who has been engaged in research on elemental technologies for realizing automatic driving of vehicles, and has conducted many demonstration experiments in the research of steering control, I am sure that I could obtain various perspectives regarding my research and it would open up new horizons for me.
Therefore, I believe that Keio University’s Faculty of Policy Management is the most suitable place for pursuing my research and social contributions, and I am aspiring to enter your school and study in your laboratory.
